Thank you in advance for considering Swan Masonry Company for your masonry project.
I was born in New Haven, Connecticut and raised in Annapolis and Baltimore, Maryland, as well as the mountains of western Virginia.

I began working in the masonry trade while still in High School in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Growing up in near poverty taught me the value of hard work and the dollars that it earns. Masonry is not for the faint of heart, but it has been an integral part of the man I have become over the nearly 40 years since I entered this trade as a very young man.
After finishing high school, I worked on commercial masonry crews in Richmond and Newport News, Virginia. My love of the ocean eventually brought me to Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach in late 1992. Less than five years later I became a father.

Shortly after my daughter was born, the pressure of providing for a child led me to the decision to quit my job and put my career destiny in my own hands rather than those of an employer.

On September 11, 1997 I formed Swan Masonry Company and never looked back. For over three decades I have made providing the highest quality workmanship possible, and completed for a fair price, to both homeowners and General Contractors alike, my highest priorities. That has never and will never change.

Swan Masonry started in the historic district, due to my OCD nature being bothered by masons who would repair old walls and not even attempt to match the mortar. The eyesores annoyed me and I quickly built a reputation for impeccable mortar matching with our historic division tag line “Built to Look Old”.

My work exploded and throughout the late 90’s and early 2000’s there were Swan Masonry signs covering the yards of historic homes in downtown Wilmington, NC and Charleston, SC.

I personally rebuilt and repointed literally hundreds of historic chimneys and walls before my company grew into a commerical masonry firm with nearly 50 employees by 2002.

In the summer of 2002 we were one of the first masonry contractors approached to be involved in the construction of a new shopping mall that was to be built near Wrightsville Beach. Our involvement in the construction of Mayfaire Town Center ushered in the next stage of the company history where Swan Masonry grew even larger.

Now 25 years later, 2026 represents our 30th year active in North and South Carolina masonry and we are stronger than ever before!

Hundreds of homes bricked in Landfall, St. James Plantation, Porters Neck, Winding River and too many more to mention, countless high profile historic projects, Independence Mall, Starbucks, Hobby Lobby, Walmart, Target, Fedex Distribution facility in Castle Hayne, Marriotts and Hilton properties in Wilmington, Raleigh, Cary, Charlotte and beyond, The Battleship North Carolina Visitors Center, the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher, Fort Bragg, Camp Lejeune… I could go on for hours. No southeastern US masonry company has completed our volume and range of work and I am very proud and grateful of what has been accomplished by our team of professionals.

Additionally, I am eternally grateful to the residents and commercial general contractors of Wilmington, Raleigh, Charlotte, Asheville and behond, who have provided me, even during the recession of 2007, 2008 and 2009 with the opportunity to put food on the table of my family and loved ones.

Many contractors did not survive that period and I am forever grateful that I was able to.

If you hire Swan Masonry Company, I will personally make certain your project is staffed with honorable, honest and highly skilled men who have clean records, no felony or serious misdemeanor convictions and whom are extremely well paid and therefore, dedicated to doing their work with pride and attention to detail, with no shortcuts that often undermine the structural integrity of masonry work.

In short, we will DO IT RIGHT. We can be underbid but no one does better work. I am obsesseive about quality.

Please browse around and remember.. all of these photos are OUR WORK – unlike the wave of contractors who have appeared out of nowhere in recent years with aggressive SEO and Google analytic teams and stunning, fake AI photos all over their websites.

We are the real thing. Highly Professional Masonry Experts with an unmatchable history. Period.

Thank you in advance for considering Swan Masonry Company for your project.

Respectfully,

James G. Swan
